FROM THE OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE MARSHALL COUNTY EMA …Severe Weather Potential for Thursday (Halloween) 10/31/13 Wind Advisory is in effect until 10 PM this evening….. A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT THIS EVENING... * TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...ALL OF NORTH ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE UNTIL 10 PM CDT THIS EVENING. * WINDS...SUSTAINED 25 MPH WITH WIND GUSTS TO AROUND 35 MPH. A FEW HIGHER WIND GUSTS TO AROUND 40 MPH POSSIBLE IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. * IMPACTS...STRONG WINDS MAY CAUSE DRIVING DIFFICULTIES FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES...ESPECIALLY THOSE DRIVING FROM AN EAST TO WEST DIRECTION. THE WINDS WILL ALSO BLOW AROUND LIGHT AND UNSECURED OUTDOOR OBJECTS... SUCH AS LAWN FURNITURE...TRASH CANS AND HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS. Per the National Weather Service Office-Huntsville Showers, with moderate to heavy rain, will overspread the area (from southwest to northeast) throughout the afternoon/early evening hours. Winds will increase throughout the day with stronger wind gusts possible in heavier showers. The threat for thunderstorms remains low but a few embedded cloud-to-ground lightning strikes can still be expected later this afternoon/early this evening, especially west of I-65. For Marshall County the arrival of the system will be near the 7:00 PM mark. (Could be a little earlier our a little later depending on how things continue to develop and movement toward our area). Light precipitation may begin a little earlier than 7:00 PM. By Midnight the front should be out of Marshall County. Primary threats associated with this system will be: Strong/Gusty Winds (30-50 MPH MPH) – We will see these winds in advance of the storms main line as well as with the Line itself. Pockets of brief stronger wind gusts (greater than 50 MPH) are possible with any more organized/heavier rain bands. Potential for Brief-Spin-up Tornadoes is now very low: BUT, given the strength of the low level winds, a very brief spin-up tornado embedded within any organized rain band, especially around breaks/kinks in the line cannot be ruled out. There is still a possibility that we will be placed under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch this Evening so please stay weather aware and check for updates periodically.
