FRSC officials tackle Chidoka over promotion JULY 16, 2014 BY FEMI MAKINDE 0 COMMENTS print Osita Chidoka Some aggrieved officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps have asked President Goodluck Jonathan to look into the alleged refusal of the Corps Marshal, Mr. Osita Chidoka, to clear the backlog of promotions of those of them employed since 2007. Chidoka was last week nominated as a minister by the President in a letter to the Senate, and is awaiting clearance by the upper legislative chamber. Three of the affected officials, who claimed to have been denied promotion, said this in an interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Tuesday. The three affected officials visited The PUNCH office in Osogbo where they granted interviews to our correspondent but pleaded not to be named. The officials, who pleaded not to be named for the fear of victimisation, said some of them who were employed in 2007 were called for promotion examination, which they did and many of them passed. They, however, added that they were asked to produce the original copies of their credentials but some of them could not because the institutions they attended had not issued the certificates. One of them said, “Some of us travelled to our institutions but we were told that the certificates were not ready. But we told them that we presented our results, which were given by the various schools. “One thing I know is that the results were verified from the institutions and those who presented fake results were rejected. Now, they want to make us suffer unduly for what we have no control over. It is not fair.” The aggrieved FRSC officials stated that some relatives of senators whom Chidoka allegedly employed in 2011 were called for screening on Monday and had been prompted, while those he met in the commission and were due for promotion were neglected. Another one said, “Is it because we don’t have godfathers that he is treating us as if we are not human beings? This issue of godfather is now the main talk among our colleagues in all the sectors. “We will be happy if the President can look into our case before Chidoka is taken away. We are afraid that we may forfeit the opportunity of having our promotion if he is taken out of the FRSC without attending to the promotion issue.” The spokesperson for the FRSC, Mr. Jonas Agwu, said in a telephone interview that the allegation of godfatherism in the promotion process was baseless and many officers got promoted without the influence of anybody. He explained that the rules of the annual promotion exercise were clear and known to all FRSC officials, adding that many officers who had not been promoted because they failed to present their original credentials were given ample time to go back to their schools and obtain same. “Several of such complaints were brought before the promotions board and many were able to submit their credentials before the process came to an end; however, if anybody failed to present their certificates before the closure of the process, they cannot now blame others for their failings,” Agwu said. punchng/business/appointments-management/frsc-officials-tackle-chidoka-over-promotion/
