FULL FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: MONDAY: Intermittent showers - TopicsExpress

FULL FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: MONDAY: Intermittent showers will probably be heaviest and most frequent between 6am and midday. Through the afternoon, we should see a lot more sunshine and most places should remain dry, although a few unlucky ones might just catch a further shower. Towards sunset, the showers should step up a gear again. Throughout the period, the wind is due to be a force 5-6 west-southwesterly, with stronger gusts (especially near showers). This means that Jersey and Guernsey are likely to be equal in temperature (like yesterday). St Peter Port will probably rise to about 20°C, whilst most other places are about half a degree cooler. If you want to do some indoor things, then today is not a bad day for that. However, if you want to hit the beach, then its got to be the north or west coasts for surfing, windsurfing or kite surfing; or Fermain and Havelet for keeping warm. Look out for the high tides, bringing big splashes and debris to west coast roads: High Water 7:40am... 9.51m Low Water 2:10pm... 0.84m High Water 8:00pm... 9.99m TUESDAY: A slight backing of the wind to a force 5 southwesterly, will mean that showers should be lighter and less frequent. Otherwise the forecast looks almost identical to Mondays. The tides are slightly different however: High Water 8:30am... 9.83m Low Water 2:50pm... 0.52m High Water 8:50pm... 10.19m These are the largest tides of the week; splashes and debris are inevitable (mainly on the west coast), but flooding should be minimal with this combination or weather and waves. WEDNESDAY: The wind will veer to force 5 west-nortwesterly, bringing a bit of a shower risk (mainly in the morning), but mostly fantastic visibility, sunshine and a few bubbly silver-lined clouds. The max temperatures should still be within half a degree of 20°C. My beach recommendations are the same as the previous days, with the addition of Petit Bot and Moulin Huet around low water. High Water 9:20am... 9.90m Low Water 3:40pm... 0.52m High Water 9:30pm... 10.13m Once again, splashes and debris are inevitable (mainly on the west coast), but flooding should be minimal with this combination or weather and waves. THURSDAY: Its too far away to have any idea about the timings of showers but, once again, there will probably be a few in an otherwise sparkling day. The top temperatures will still be within half degree of 20°C, but it might feel slightly nicer as the wind reduces to a moderate force 4 westerly. The tides will not be quite so extreme: Low Water 4:00am... 0.42m High Water 10:00am... 9.73m Low Water 4:20pm... 0.79m High Water 10:10pm... 9.77m FRIDAY: Gentle or moderate northwesterly breezes should bring a dry and mostly sunny day. The top temperatures should be between 20 and 21°C. All beaches should be lovely, but in my opinion, its probably going to be nicest at Fermain or Havelet around lunchtime, and then over to Marble Bay, Moulin Huet or Petit Bot for the late afternoon low tide. I havent mentioned the UV index much lately, but it is still 6 during sunny spells in the middle of the day. The wind may feel cool but it does nothing to dampen the intensity of the sunlight, so dont forget to protect yourselves. THE WEEKEND: My confidence is rarely strong for days 6 and 7 of the forecast, and this is no exception. However, my expectation is for two dry days, with gentle or moderate west-southwesterly breezes. Mostly clear skies should lead to afternoon highs of 21°C and early morning lows of about 15°.
