FULL-TIME JOB VACANCY ASSOCIATE (administrative – not legal – position) Program Office/Emergencies Division (New York Office) Application Deadline: February 1, 2015 Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking an Associate to provide administrative assistance to its Program Office and Emergencies Division. This position reports to the Deputy Executive Director for Program and the Director of Emergencies Division, and supports other staff in the Program Office and Emergencies Division. The Program Office oversees the organization’s research and reporting work and the Emergencies Division works to investigate and expose human rights violations in conflict and crisis situations. Responsibilities: 1. Providing administrative support such as scheduling, making travel arrangements, taking minutes at meetings, creating and maintaining extensive filing and archiving systems, word processing, photocopying, faxing, answering phones, and processing mail; 2. Planning and preparing for events and meetings and conducting follow-up; 3. Maintaining strong communications among HRW offices, global staff, and external partners; 4. Preparing, drafting, editing, formatting and distributing materials such as news releases, reports, tables, charts, briefing papers, op eds, publications, multimedia and web content; 5. Assisting with research, electronic clippings, wires, and translations; 6. Recording and tracking departmental finances; 7. Recruiting and coordinating interns; and 8. Carrying out other duties as required. Qualifications: Education: A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required. Related Skills and Knowledge: 1. Prior office/administration experience and strong organizational skills are required. 2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required; proficiency in other languages (particularly Arabic or French) is highly desirable. 3. Ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously is required. 4. Ability to make sound decisions consistent with functions is required. 5. Ability to prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently as well as function as a member of a team with staff in multiple locations globally is required. 6. Strong interest in international human rights is required. 7. Strong interpersonal skills are required. 8. Proficiency in computer packages including MS Office applications is required. Other: Applicants for this position must possess current US work authorization valid for a minimum of two years from start date. Salary and Benefits: Salary range starts at $42,765.
