FUN FACT FRIDAY…Today is Black Friday and the day after Thanksgiving. Our offices are always closed on this day. The only people that have to work today around here are those of us on the air. Yesterday I did one of my annual Thanksgiving traditions…put up the Christmas lights on the house! As I found myself on the roof, singing Mele’ Kalikimaka, I was thinking about the year so far and all for which I am thankful. I am thankful for the doctor’s that treated my wife’s cancer this year and the way they removed all of it from her body. I’m thankful for my Little Moocher and all that she has taught me this year. I’m thankful that God continues to take care of my family by providing for all our needs. My wife makes a great Thanksgiving meal with everything you can imagine. I always enjoy eating that meal with my family, and as I eat I think about the meals that my Mom used to make. There are 2 things that pop into my head for some reason: her mashed potatoes and her pies. Her mashed potatoes where real, mashed with a hand held masher, which means that there were some potatoes that were mashed better than others. She made her pies from scratch…even the crust. She wouldn’t buy one of the pre-made crusts from the store. She always made her crusts herself. Since my Mom died, the whole family doesn’t really get together anymore on holidays. My sister has her family and I have mine. But that’s ok, we are working on new traditions. On Thanksgiving, the Filbeck Family breaks out all of our Christmas Movies that we like to watch. We set a rule that we don’t watch them during the year. We save them for THIS time of year. After dinner we sat down as a family for a game of Go Fish, and a couple of rounds with the Memory game. After that, Mama and Moocher go upstairs to watch a show that the Little Moocher gets to pick while Daddy goes to bed (I have to get up very early to work on Friday). Then, just like every night, Mama reads a story to the Moocher, then a bible story, then pray and off to bed. She is such a good Mama to my Little Moocher. Today is Hawaiian Shirt Friday, but because it is not a normal Friday, I’m not wearing a Hawaiian Shirt today. I’m wearing what I usually wear outside of work: Pink leather chaps, a black mesh shirt, sparkled open-toed shoes so people can see my new nail polish. Happy Hawaiian Shirt Friday and have a great weekend!
