FYI - If you have children under the age of 2 - dont give cough medications. Cold and cough medications are among the top 20 substances leading to death in children younger than five years. In 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommended that over-the-counter cough and cold medications be avoided in children younger than two years. After the removal of over-the-counter infant cough and cold medications from pharmacy shelves, the estimated number of emergency department visits for adverse events involving these medications was cut in half for children younger than two years. Manufacturers of these medications have voluntarily modified the product labels to state that they should not be used in children younger than four years.
