FYI - its going to be a good thing! Archery and Jesus, put the two together and you’ve got accuracy By Jae Juarez Staff Writer Have you ever wanted to learn how to shoot a bow with accuracy? If so, now is your chance to learn and even with the op- portunity to do it indoors where it is nice and cool, compared to the near-100-degree tem- peratures outdoors. Beginning in September the Crescent Lake Christian Center is offering an eight-week training course for those who are interested in learning how to shoot a bow and arrow. The class, under direction of Steve Way- man, will be led by Wayman and five other coaches free of charge in the gymnasium lo- cated at Crescent Lake. There is a maximum of 24 students that are allowed to attend from ages 10 to 92. Wayman said the church would provide the bow and arrows and targets for the course. “I have been practicing archery and bow hunting for about 33 years,” Wayman said. “I have just always had a passion for it and thought it would be neat to teach others. I found a program entitled ‘Center Shot’ and ordered the kit. The kit included bows for all ages and showed how to teach instinct shoot- ing. It all tied together and I knew it would be something great to do at the church.” Crescent Lake has already finished one flight of classes and Wayman said it was a hit with 17 students benefiting from instruction. “Our goal is to teach basic skills of archery and the following of Jesus Christ. We will have a small devotional time after each class to help people get connected,” he said. This upcoming round of archery classes is set to begin on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. and will last two hours. Each class will meet once a week every Monday night for the next eight weeks. Wayman said the first two weeks are required and late sign-ups will not be taken after that. “The first two classes are required and are instructional; after that we cannot take any new sign-ups because students would be too far behind to catch up with the program,” Wayman explained. After the fundamentals are explained and after the first two weeks the other six weeks of classes will only be an hour and a half long. Interested parties can call Wayman to sign up at 816-377-7226.
