FYI: Beaumont City Council members will appoint a replacement for Ward 4 Councilman Jamie Smith who will resign on Dec. 9 as he prepares to take office in January to become Jefferson County District Clerk, the office he won in the Nov. 4 general election. Smith, a councilman since May 2007, survived a recount later in November to ensure his victory in the race with Charlie Wiggins, the Republican candidate. Smith, a Democrat, won the election by about 700 votes. Mayor Beck Ames said interested applicants for the Ward 4 office should send a resume by 5 p.m. Dec. 15 to her at the City of Beaumont, P.O. Box 3827, Beaumont TX 77704, or to her email address, [email protected] or bring it to the citys executive offices, third floor of City Hall, 801 Main St. Applicants must have their primary residence within Ward 4, which generally covers Beaumonts south end. Council will conduct an executive session on Dec. 16 and vote on an appointment after the executive session.
