FYI During last weeks AGM we discussed the importance of forging links with other community-orientated history/archaeology/heritage groups. Well, yesterday I was in Great Yarmouth to discuss their strategy to re-brand the town in terms of heritage. At the end, I met a wonderful woman called Vicki, who is part of a project to breathe community life into the Priory Gardens in Golestone (incl a tearoom - now were talking!). Tea, cake, history, horticulture, community and wellbeing - all the elements guaranteed to make my nostrils flare with excitement ;-). Suffice it to say, we got on famously and had a cuppa and conversation after the meeting. At some point in the near future Vicki will be coming to the History Club as she is very interested in our approach. I am really excited about making links like this! Also, later today I will be doing a presentation to the thriving Waveney Valley Community Archaeology Group (WVCAG) about recent medieval graffiti archaeology. This is another outward and inclusive group that we should be connecting with - not least because they have already done successful funding bids and I am sure that they will be generous in sharing their knowledge on this (I know Lorna and Andrew who are founder members already, so I speak with confidence on this). Exciting times eh!
