FYI: HOUSE EDUCATION BRIEFING ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH FROM ANNOUNCEMENT: TO: Members of the House of Representatives FROM: Alfred W. Speer Representative Stephen F. Carter, Chairman of the House Committee on Education, will conduct a briefing as follows: DATE: Monday, November 4, 2013 TIME: 1:00 p.m. PLACE: House Committee Room 5 PURPOSE: To provide House members with information on the Common Core State Standards presented by state Superintendent John White and State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education President, Chas Roemer. This initial briefing is intended to provide members of the House with background information on all aspects of the standards, including the status of the implementation of the standards, so that members are fully informed on the issue, able to address constituent concerns, and better prepared to consider possible legislation concerning the issue in the 2014 Regular Session. The briefing will include a question and answer period for members of the House to ask questions of Superintendent White and Mr. Roemer. There will be no public testimony received at the briefing. The public will have opportunities to provide testimony at future legislative committee meetings on this issue as appropriate.
