FYI regarding Staples stores in the northeast... Possible Data Breach At Staples Brian Krebs who investigates and reports on data breaches has issued a bulletin concerning Staples Stores in the Northeast. According to Krebs, “...banks contacted by this reporter have traced a pattern of fraudulent transactions on a group of cards that had all previously been used at a small number of Staples locations in the Northeast.” Staples has 1200 stores in the U.S. and 13 stores in Maine. Maine locations are: Augusta (2 Stores,) Bangor (2 Stores,) Biddeford, Brunswick, Falmouth, Lewiston, N. Windham, Presque Isle, Rockland, South Portland and Waterville. In a statement issued late Monday, a company spokesman indicated that, “Staples is in the process of investigating a potential issue involving credit card data and has contacted law enforcement. Investigators have not yet announced the dates of the suspected breach or how the Staples system was accessed. It has not yet been reported if the breach activity also involved those who made internet purchases using Staples. Those who purchased items from Staples within the last few months are urged to carefully check their credit card or bank statements and to report any unauthorized charges immediately to the card issuer or to their bank.
