Face Book, Online Classifieds, Ebay, Craigs List SCAM ALERT! - as many of you know I have had my Etech 14 SUP for Sale for the past 30 days - I had also posted it in the classifieds at Distressed Mullet - a guy in Cali contacted me by email about the board, after some email and text exchanges he taboard off the classifieds etc as he had agreed to purchase the board (for his son) - he mailed me a bank certified check from a San Diego bank - it was weird how he wanted to include extra money for a shipper to come to my place and box and ship the board (but I know that it is difficult to ship large SUPs so stranger shipping arrangements have happened before) - however when the check arrived it was a little more than double the cost of the board (about an extra $900) - I thought it was a little steep, but it was going to have to be boxed and trucked etc, - however my spidey sense kept going off as he was very persistent to know when the check cleared in my bank before he would give me any shipping info - I almost called the deal off, but thought I might as well deposit the check and go from there first - sure enough Bank of America security division contacted me the following day last week that the check was counterfeit - it was part of a large scam ring nationally where they target classifieds and ebay and hope that the bank you deposit too doesnt discover the forge right away and deposits the funds - then they instruct you to wire transfer the extra shipping money to the shipper - once you do that your money is gone and then the bank discovers the certified funds are not real - thanks to B of A it didnt get that far (I would never have wire transferred money anyway without talking to a shipper and verifying the company etc anyway) - just BEWARE - not sure whether I am more pissed he tried to scam me or that I lost almost a month with the board not being up for sale - lol
