Facebook: Tool for Global Citizenship? Must friendship be limited to those people that you can reach on foot, by car, or aeroplane? And what about dirigibles and blimps? Must one have been in the physical presence of some someone in order to be their friend friend? And a friend without an arr is but a fiend, and not Buttafufuoco. I digress. And a friend without an inn is fried. Again. That said, and gladly out of my system, if an artist is born in a cultural backwater, or mathematical frontmilk, must they then be content to settle for the set of possible friends provided for them by the vast miracle of their effulgent birth, and the wondrous humanity that spawn around that sacred place? Facebook friends are world friends, unshackled by transportation and wherewithal, which, for most, is insufficient. As such, I often feel more connected to people far away, than to hominidae next door, with whom, I may have next to nothing in common. Local prejudice can scarce bear the scrutiny of universal debate, and so it is that it will be dissolved, as the great chain of conversation expands to fill the vacuum of our division, with lifespeech, lovespeech, truthspeech, and other foods for the soul we share.
