Facebook playmates: Thank-you to all my well-wishers today and to explain my disappearance from Facebook. I’ve been ill and among my myriad not-that bad health issues (fueled mostly from old sport injuries and plain-old aging--61 years old). In particular, I have “scoliosis (and kyhoscoliosis), idiopathic—primary”). It means I have a bad back that prevents me from sitting at the computer for more than 20 minutes without pain. Been trying to write a trilogy of short stories. Pain slows me down. Have been advised to have a total spinal fusion, which I don’t want to do until it’s absolutely necessary (i.e. the curvature of my back will eventually head into my chest and spine). Yes, I’ve been to many specialists and a terrific chiropractor that I need to get back to. I haven’t responded to family members (I call them on the phone), confirmed friendships and answered messages and invites on Facebook for about 9 weeks. I’ve been writing down all your names with a plan that I’m finally launching today—responding to all of the lovely people I know. Another reason for the disappearance is that I don’t know how to file on this timeline. I had to call a friend to walk me through the process today. Facebook is cool becuz when I left the Sun-Times, they rushed us out so fast I could not create an out-of-office email response so people could find me. Thanks to Facebook I’ve managed to get in touch with many colleagues and business friends. Still missing many business contacts that have become friends after working as a reporter for decades. BOTTOM LINE: I’m feeling better and health is improving. So, I’m writing a general message today and intend to go on Facebook for short times every day this week and respond personally to each…reminding all that I value and believe in friendship. I’m very lucky to have so many friends and acquaintances. Thanks for listening, celeste p.s. My sincerest condolences and offer of any help to the many great and extremely talented Sun-Times photographers who have been laid off by Sun-Times management. That “economic” move carved out a large chunk of talent from the newspaper’s heart and soul. I think 28 photographers were affected? So sad.
