Factional NGF Chairman wants an end to crisis rocking the forum Rivers State Governor and the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, has called for an end to the crisis rocking the forum. It will be recalled that the 36-member NGF broke up in May 2013 with two governors, Amaechi and Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, emerging as two chairmen of the forum after a disputed election. Amaechi had won the election by 19 votes to Jang’s 16, just as the Plateau State governor went ahead to open a separate secretariat for the forum, insisting that he remains the bonafide NGF chairman. But speaking while presenting his welcome address at the fourth Nigeria Governors’ Forum Retreat in Port Harcourt on Friday, Amaechi said that the division in the NGF was not good for the image of the forum and the country’s democracy. Amaechi stated that allowing the split in the NGF to linger till 2015 when a new government would be formed would not be a good development. Expressing the need for politicians learn to accept defeat during elections, the Rivers State governor pointed out that it was time to bring every member of the forum together.
