Facts About Divorce Divorce is so common in the United States that one occurs every 10 to 13 seconds. In long-lasting marriages that ended in divorce, more than 90% involved infidelity at some point. Despite this fact, only about 25% name infidelity as the reason for the divorce. Though one can get married in a hurry in many places -- especially the infamous quickie marriage capital, Las Vegas -- the average divorce proceedings take about one year. This of course varies by state and depending on if kids and assets are involved. - People in red States (Republican dominated states) are 27% more likely to get divorced than those who live in blue states (Democrat dominated states). This is most likely because people tend to get married younger in red states, increasing the likelihood of divorce. Most people who get divorced get remarried about three to four years after the divorce. Men are more likely to get remarried than women.
