Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK) USIM offers - TopicsExpress

Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK) USIM offers elective programme for local and international medical students. Alhamdulillah, this year, we received 2 medical students from University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Theyre Muslims, Sr Lama of Palestinian in origin and Sr Kawthar of Iraqi/Iranian in origin. FPSK collaborated with Az Zahrah Hospital, Bandar Baru Bangi in providing their elective project of Ibadah Friendly hospital in Malaysia. We thanked Az Zahrah Hospital for accommodating the students and this reflects that even though it is a private hospital, Az Zahrah supports academic engagement for the betterment of the Ummah. Apart from that, in the Faculty itself, the students followed the lectures which integrated Naqli (Quran and Sunnah) with the medical curriculum. Coming from a secular curriculum, both students admitted that they knew little on Islamic positions in a few issues in medicine eg transplant, organ donation by Muslims. Alhamdulillah, they had the opportunity to explore it here. Alhamdulillah, the students had expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for the learning experience they gained throughout their elective posting. One of the students reiterated how meeting with our Tahfizul Quran teacher, had motivated her and refreshed her intention to learn Quran again. And as they had come in the beginning of Syawal, they got the bonus of experiencing ketupat-rendang-open-house frenzies, rich in the Malay culture and Malaysian style :-) I had only managed to bring them to Putrajaya for the sightseeing at night. They wished to see the mosques there and were fascinated to see the magnificent beauty and size of them (Masjid Putra and Masjid Besi). Its their rezqi that they had the opportunity to see the replacement of the 15 year- old carpet of Masjid Putra, an exercise that would close one of the segment of the mosque for months. I was told that Denmark, has just gotten its first mosque. Minarets are allowed, but not Azan through loudspeaker. Tonight, theyre boarding the flight back to Denmark. As an academician, my dua is that USIM, especially the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, through this elective posting, has succeeded in one of its mission, to spread to other parts of the world that we are serious in providing an all rounded education with the integration of Naqli and Aqli, with the aim of producing medical practitioners who are leaders for the Muslim ummah. As an instant mum for the past 4 weeks to them, I weep tonight and pray that Allah SWT blesses them and bestows them success in their future endeavours.
