Fair play to the Chancellor for freezing cider and spirits duty and knocking 1p off beer duty....it at least continues the abandoned beer duty multiplier. There was also the business rates reduction affecting most retail and other outlets including pubs of UP TO £1,000. However by the time you have an increase in your rates before the reduction is applied there wont be much of a difference from last years rates. As for the 1p reduction in beer this is very unlikely to filter down to the customer. There was an increase in supply costs in January of between 4-6p a pint which equates to 10p a pint to maintain margins and cover VAT if that cost was passed on. So the overall impact will be an increase of 4-6p in income to the suppliers and an increase in costs of 3-5p to the pubs That is all
