Faith, Gotta Have It: Talk It Up “By faith [Abraham] lived as - TopicsExpress

Faith, Gotta Have It: Talk It Up “By faith [Abraham] lived as an alien in the land of promise.” Hebrews 11:9 Philippians 3:20; Hebrews 11:13b-14 If you have the kind of faith we’ve been talking about here in Hebrews 11, it’s worth talking about! Today’s verses tell us that people of faith verbalize the promises of God to others. Notice what the writer of Hebrews says. Both of these verses have to do with what these people said. They didn’t mind admitting they were “strangers and exiles” on earth. In fact, that’s what they called themselves, because they were anticipating a better place. Then verse 14 broadens it: “Those who say such things.” One of the ways you validate and illuminate your faith, and strengthen it somewhat, is to learn the talk of faith while you’re learning the walk of faith. Many of us are self-defeating in our conversation. We confess doubt. Now this is very different from the “name it, claim it” crowd that wants to conjure up things by sheer force of their confession. I’m not talking about conjuring up new things. I’m talking about verbalizing old things. I’m talking about communicating what God has said rather than conjuring up just what I want. See, there are people who say, “I need a new car. I believe God wants to give me a new car. So in faith I speak it into my garage by confessing it and claiming it. If I just talk about this new car the right way, it’s going to appear in my garage.” Well, you may be disappointed. You won’t find any basis to talk that way in these verses. What Abraham and his pals did when they confessed was to verbalize and visualize them in your situation, they become real to you where you are. That’s why you don’t need magic to live the Christian life. The Word of God is so comprehensive that when you apply the truth of Scripture to your circumstances, it will address that circumstance and sustain you while you have to wait. Practice talking the talk of faith today. Someone has said you should never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light. That’s a good word.
