Falcons! First off, Ive gotta commend the boys for dominating Seaholm on the football field in the season opener. That accomplishment can *never* be understated. Im so impressed by everyones degrees, travels, interests, and pursuits. Weve had grads represent at the Olympics, on iTunes, at the theatre, and in professional sports arenas. It just goes to show, you should never limit how high you set the bar for yourself. [feel like I need a segue warning you I havent reached those particular heights…] I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2011 with a degree in Informatics, minoring in Linguistics. I spent some time volunteering in Detroit with a program called America Reads, tutoring youngsters in underprivileged schools (proving even more how lucky we are to have been part of the Birmingham School District). One thing I noticed though, was how much these kids wanted to learn in spite of a lack of resources, school buses, many times even parental support - circumstances which they never chose. It opened my eyes to the state of public education in our country, and makes me respect the Groves teachers and grads who have since gone on to teach as well. During school, I also worked for a boutique consulting firm, which led to some bigger opportunities in the consulting world upon graduating. I now work for a company in Chicago specializing in Forensic & Litigation Consulting, specifically in their Data Analytics practice. Fancy way of saying I help make sense of information (analyze, standardize, visualize… most things with an -ize) for court cases, usually on the defense. Ive been lucky enough to work all over the country (those sky miles made it easier to then travel outside the country too). So far, my favorite places have been Costa Rica, Lisbon, Barcelona, Vancouver, and Hawaii. I became scuba certified a few years ago, so if anyone knows of an incredible dive spot, definitely let me know. I need to give particular shoutous to Mrs. Mason and Mr. Kane, for being great math teachers, which for me, translated to an interest in computer science and programming at U of M. Also, to Mrs. Voigt and Ms. Zimmerman, for making it so much easier at school and in my profession to write with purpose and passion. You are all unbelievable examples and will never be forgotten!
