Falcons Gymnastic Academy hosted its first annual club competition this weekend at its new venue. With over 170 children competing in both gymnastics and Trampolining the weekend was a huge success. The event kicked off on Saturday afternoon with Under 8’s, Under 12’s and Over 12 recreational children. The atmosphere this year was something special with many children competing for the first time and on the same equipment that the London 2012 Olympic gymnasts competed on. Under 8 In the Under 8’s Belle Betteridge was crowned the overall champion while also securing silver medals places on Beam and Trampette. Hot on her heals was Eleanor Roome who took overall silver medal 1st place on Beam and second place on Vault and Floor. In the bronze medal place overall Edward Booker was the highest of the boys, he achieved the 1st place spot on Vault and 2nd place with his Physical Preparation. Carris Agnew just missed out on the overall rankings but did secure 1st place on Trampette and 3rd place on Beam. Other placed achievements were, Emily Howes 1st Physical Preparation 3rd on Trampette, Ashleigh Cornish 1st place floor, Harriet Jones 3rd Floor, Ryan Duffy 3rd place Physical Preparation, Georgia Thomson 3rd place vault. Under 12 Under 12’s Poppy Sampson achieved overall 1st place with a score of 44.003. Poppy placed 1st on the Vault, Beam and Trampette which helped to secure her victory. Sophie Hide placed 2nd overall achieving 2nd place on Vault and Trampette and 3rd on Beam. Overall 3rd place went to Oliver Baxter who achieved 2nd place on P bars. Isabella Wright achieved 3rd position on Floor, Lauren Rickard achieved 3rd position on Vault, Imogen Dunbrook placed 1st on Floor and 2nd on Physical Preparation. Patrick Clifton narrowly missed out on an overall medal however did achieve 3rd place on P Bars, 2nd place on Floor and 1st place on Physical Preparation. Chloe Armstrong was placed 3rd overall on Trampette. Over 12 In the Over 12 category, the overall positions were: 1st place – Ella Clifton with a score of 41.683, 2nd place went to Skye Sibthorpe who scored 41.270 and 3rd place was awarded to Jodee Stevens who scored 39.197. Harriet Jones placed 3rd on Floor and Ashleigh Cornish placed 1st on Floor. Carris Agnew showed good routines on both P Bars and Trampette and placed 3rd and 1st respectively. 3rd places were also achieved by Ryan Duffy on Physical Preparation and Georgia Thompson on Vault. Emily Howes produced a good days’ performance and achieved 3rd on Trampette and 1st on Physical Prep. Under 10 Isobel Cooke, Jessica Davey, Scarlett Rosher and Jennifer Walsh all placed 1st on Trampette, Beam, Vault, Floor and Physical Preparation respectively. Individual apparatus 2nd place positions were achieved by Marie Day (Beam), Molly-Mai Hingston (Trampette), Jessica Davey (Floor and Physical Preparation) and Jennifer Walsh (Vault). Fern Harris, Genevieve Tuhakaraina, Thea James and Jennifer Walsh all placed 3rd on the following apparatus respectively: Physical Preparation, Floor, Vault, Trampette and Beam. The overall positions went to Jessica Davey 1st, Jennifer Walsh 2nd and Scarlett Rosher 3rd. Under 6 In the Under 6 age group there were some strong contenders for the medal positions. The top three positions were taken by Charlie Mock 1st, Annalise Roome 2nd and Keira Sumners 3rd. Individual apparatus positions were spread throughout the age group with Erin Martin placing 1st on Beam, Gabriel Napier placing 2nd on Trampette, Amber Kentell placing 3rd on Beam and Alana Childs placing 3rd on Physical Preparation. Charlie Mock achieved 1st on Vault, Floor, Physical Preparation and Trampette. Annalise Roome achieved 2nd places on Vault, Beam, Floor and Physical Preparation and a 3rd place on Trampette. Keira Sumners placed 3rd on Vault and Floor. Development In the Development section of the weekends’ competition, we saw 38 competitors battle over the final positions. Only 1.1 marks separated the overall medal positions and they went to: Josie Bulled 1st (34.550), Ruby Liggett 2nd (33.550) and Felicity Ayres 3rd (33.450). Felicity Ayres, Joseph Spencer and Indie Harris all achieved 3rd place individually on the following apparatus: Vault, Floor and Bars. 2nd places were achieved on Floor, P Bars, Vault, Bars and Beam by Felicity Ayres, Sam Green, Jersey Louise Ledger and Carris Evans. Squad During the final competition of the weekend, the team spirit was high with huge amounts of support coming from the audience and from the children competing. Clean, precise, quality and impressive are just a few ways to describe the level of the routines that were performed. The top three positions were taken by Ryan Owen 1st overall (36.050), who also placed 1st on High Bar and Floor, Adam Tobin 2nd overall (35.390), who also achieved 2nd on the Vault and High Bar and a 1st place on P Bars. Overall 3rd position was secured by Byron Day Rogers (34.750) who also placed 2nd on the P Bars. Other apparatus placements went to: Alice Sumners 2nd on Floor, Sarah Foxton 3rd Floor, Joe Cemlyn-Jones 1st on Vault and 3rd on High Bar, Sophie Lethaby 3rd on Vault, Ibrahim Kanj 2nd on Floor and Beatrice Isaac 3rd on Beam. Trampoline In addition to the gymnastics competition, Falcon’s hosted their inaugural trampoline competition where over 20 competitors battled for medal positions in 4 categories. In the Under 10 single hour category the scores were extremely close with 0.075 splitting the overall medal positions. 1st place went to Harry Lucas, 2nd place was awarded to Ava Wilson and 3rd position went to Hope Unstead. In the Over 10 single hour category the scores were also very close: Shana Hutchings scoring 7.250 which achieved her 1st place. 2nd place went to Jessica Thomas with a score of 7.225 and 3rd to Frazer Hooper with 7.050. The Under 12 age group was won by Millie Ayres with a total of 7.700. 2nd place was awarded to Thea James and 3rd place went to Poppy Sampson. The final age category of the competition was the Over 12’s. With all scores achieved over 7 points, the competition was close. The final positions were: 1st place – Bebe Malek, 2nd place Alex Matthews and 3rd place went to Harry Dowling. The weekend was a great success for all concerned. We look forward to next year’s event with great excitement.
