Families are struggling to afford childcare despite new Government - TopicsExpress

Families are struggling to afford childcare despite new Government ECCE scheme, writes John Cradden After all, the expense of sending a child to a pre-school is inextricably linked with the high costs of childcare in general, while demand for after-school care is also rising. Marlene McCormack of Early Childhood Ireland, the childcare representative body, says the sector continues to adapt and grow. A lot of services changed their business model during the recession just to stay sustainable and viable, but demand is rising due partly to the free pre-school year and particularly in after-school care as employment levels begin to rise. ...And we are always saying to our people - build a relationship with the parents, as its not just purely a business transaction. This is about the children. So negotiate, talk, see if there is any kind of little movement possible.
