Family 13 Bible Reading 10/25/13 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, (Colossians 1:10 NIV) This initial chapter of Colossians bears Pauls love and concern for the Colossian Believers demonstrated by his prayers for them. And v10 embodies some of the things he is praying for them: that they would live a life worthy of The Lord, that they would please Him in every way, that they would bear fruit in every good work and that they would grow in the knowledge of God (more follows in v11-12). But it was his prayer for their fruitful life that caught my attention, the same phrase that he used just a few verses previously when he wrote that the Gospel was bearing fruit and growing thru out the whole world. This would help us understand that the great news of Jesus life, death and resurrection on our behalf is meant to be productive in our lives, that its a message that is meant to produce life in and thru my life. Often we default to a lifestyle that is content w/knowing the Gospel, but failing to understand that the Gospel is meant to bear fruit, to grow in a way that causes more growth in the lives of others well beyond my own. As we scatter the powerful, life-transforming seed of the Gospel into the soil of hearts that God has near our lives, we will see it take root and spring to life and produce crops abundantly because thats what the Spirit of God does w/the Word of God in peoples lives. So, my prayer for you today - that you would bear fruit in every good work as others in your world take note of the Spirit of God who is alive and productive in you.
