Family Arts Night is less than a month away! We are excited to have the Maine Youth Orchestra perform for us this year. The Maine Youth Orchestra is a youth orchestra for middle school and high school students. It gives student musicians the unique opportunity to play in a symphony orchestra under professional direction. MYO provides a challenging repertoire, fun and supportive atmosphere, and a great social network for kids. MYO rehearses once per week during the school year, and performs a holiday concert and spring concert. MYO musicians also perform in outreach concerts and ensembles at various community events throughout the area. The conductor of the Maine Youth Orchestra is Paul Ross. Mr. Ross holds degrees in conducting and cello from Julliard School of Music, and is cellist for the Portland String Quartet. He currently conducts the Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra and is founding conductor of the Augusta Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Ross also teaches at Bowdoin College and Colby College. He has been the principal cellist for the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the Quebec Symphony Orchestra and the Robert Shaw Chorale.
