Family & Friends, as a citizen advocate & political activist for our community, Im asking you to speak up on behalf of CANCER PATIENTS & their families. We all have been touched in many ways by that awful disease called CANCER. You can help now by sending a message to our state legislators about the Oral Parity Bill that is now under consideration. The oral parity bill, written by Legislators Buford, Rhoads, Ridley, & Thomas in Kentucky, has passed the state Senate and is now on to the House, but time is short and we need your help to cross the finish line. Please ask your representative ASAP to support SB 148 today! SB 148/HM (BR 1669) is an act relating to insurance coverage of anticancer medications. Create a new section of Subtitle 17A of KRS Chapter 304 to define anticancer medications; require that health benefit plans not require a higher copayment, coinsurance, or deductible for patient-administered anticancer medications than are required for anticancer medications injected or intravenously administered by a health care provider; prohibit specified actions to circumvent this provision. Provided below is a suggested text below for you to use when emailing your representative, but feel free to edit the text and include your personal story. Your voice is critical to ensure oral parity becomes law this year, and with only a few weeks before the Legislature adjourns, the time is NOW! Email Text To Your State Senator & Representative: Subject Line: Please support SB 148, The Cancer Treatment Modernization Act Dear Representative (insert name) I’m writing as your constituent and as a supporter of the National Patient Advocate Foundation to urge you to support SB 148, The Cancer Treatment Modernization Act. This bill is a crucial step in ensuring that Kentucky’s cancer patients are able to access the medication and treatment they need, regardless of how it’s administered (whether self-administered in pill form, or physician administered via IV.) Twenty-nine other states have passed similar legislation and now is the time to modernize health insurance in Kentucky! Technology continues to change the nature of medical treatment for serious diseases such as cancer, yet health insurance plans have not always adapted to ensure patient access. Cancer patients across Kentucky are already fighting for their lives – they should not also have to fight to pay for their medications. Please support SB148 to improve the lives of so many cancer patients and their families in Kentucky. Thank you for your support on this crucial issue that affects so many of your constituents. Sincerely, (Your name) Thank you for having your voice heard on behalf of all Kentucky cancer patients!
