Family, friends, and colleagues—Barbara passed away this morning from metastatic cancer. A memorial service will be held in Alberta this summer. We will soon have a memorial website set up where you can post pictures, memories, tributes, and the like. In the meantime, we hope you are able to connect with someone else who is likewise hurting. Comfort each other, and perhaps engage in a random act of kindness or generous act of service in Barbara’s honor. We ask that you give our family privacy as we mourn her passing and try to make sense of, and recover from, the intensity of the last three weeks. For those who were not aware, Barbara starting having neurological symptoms over the Thanksgiving holiday. Brain imaging revealed wide-spread lesions. Barbara deteriorated very quickly, and although she was devastated by the knowledge that her end was near, her physical suffering was minimal thanks to medication. Her life has been cut short by decades, but she lived life fully up until three weeks before her passing. For those who have been following Barbara’s situation, we are grateful for the kind words, kind deeds, and prayers for her and for all of us. The messages you sent were a source of comfort for Barbara—affirmation at a time when her sense of self was so compromised by the disease. She passed away knowing that she has touched many lives, and with the satisfaction of a life well lived. May she rest in the peace that passes all understanding.
