Family is like a pot of soup. You start with 2 basic ingredients (your stock & your base ingredient with which to build the rest of the soup. Just like families, each pot of soup has its own unique flavor & personality based on the ingredients added to it. Today marked the celebration of the day the 4th ingredient was added 55 years ago to the pot we call the Pierce family. My sister, Lynnis was the 4th of 7 children. She often called herself the invisible child because of her indistinct birth role (middle child) but i call her the salt in our soup. Like salt, after being added to the pot, you cant see it, but you sure know when it isnt there. The flavor of the soup is bland & nondescript until the salt is added in just the right quantity. She adds the zest, quiet strength & resolve to our often loud, impulsive & flighty group. Shes steady, loyal to a fault but has a bit of spice herself when cooked under pressure. When you get the whole pot to boiling, you dont want her spilling on you, cause salt rubbed in a wound is not a pleasant experience! On the other hand, she is a gentle, giving soul with a heart as soft as a marshmallow & as big as the heavens. Yep, she may have been the 4th ingredient, in our soup, but without her, our pot would not have been the same! How glad i am that she came along! Happy Birthday Nan! I love you to the moon!
