Family meeting with Jessica Sewells doctors went very well. The pulmonary team says her lungs are improving, they put in a trachea tube today so shes more comfortable, the fluid in her lung is still there but its better than it was. She does not have pneumonia, just mucus building up because she cant cough. The bacterial infection she contracted is responding to the antibiotics, fever is not as high and her white blood cell count is back to normal. The orthopedic team says her broken arm and ribs are healing well. The neurology doctor is still encouraged by what he is seeing and says, as he has said before, its a long slow process and wont speculate on what damage may be permanent. She has been opening her eyes more and more and wiggles her toes when asked to. He says we should keep talking, singing & reading to her, that she may recognize familiar faces and voices. We discussed what criteria is needed to move her out of ICU, and it seems like as long as the new umbilical feeding tube & trachea tubes heal well, the infection clears up completely & no new complications arise, that it might not be too much longer. The next step after that would be a skilled nursing facility and then hopefully she will be alert enough to be eligible for a TBI facility. But that is many months away from now. We all would like to thank you for your continued support and prayers, its only by the grace of God, and even the doctors agreed, that Jessica is here with us today. Its truly a miracle! So thank you, thank you, thank you! Please continue praying for a complete recovery for Jessica, and peace & strength for her mother, sister, and our entire family.
