Fan Question...I was coaching a 10u kid pitch rec league game. Our pitcher is better than most can get them over the plate with decent velocity but still has a lot of work ahead of her. Anyways. As the game goes on we notice that the ump isnt giving some of the calls the other teams pitcher is getting. So our pitcher is recording quite a few walks and getting flustered on the mound. And the crowd seen it and some pitches that should have been strikes. Even our catcher is getting upset. The game was close until the walks started happening. Then it started getting out of reach. As time was running out on us we decide to make a pitching change then the game ends soon after. As the game was coming to a close in the last inning I have a casual chat with the ump and he starts telling me that we have a pretty good pitcher and admits to making her work harder for her strikes. And thats why the other teams pitcher was getting some of the calls we didnt get. Is this right? Does the ump think he is in the right or think he is helping our pitcher by doing this? I think it hurts the kid and breaks down their confidence. Should she pay for the time and work she puts in to be a good pitcher and to learn what we as coaches teach her?????
