FanSubmission! “Spilled Milk” Relax, and laugh a little for crying out loud! My husband got me wooden spoons for my 33rd birthday a few weeks ago. That’s it. Wooden spoons. Funny, when I have shared that information with others, they have either laughed their pants off or reacted with rather stunned concern for me. It came as no surprise to me. After all, last year, I got a new refrigerator for mother’s day, my birthday and our anniversary… I received said refrigerator for Christmas. Are you questioning the stability of my marriage yet? Don’t. Here is the thing. Is it nice to have someone express love through a thoughtfully purchased gift? ABSOLUTELY!! However, you are missing the true meaning of life and love if you think it is what defines a relationship and keeps it afloat. The foundation of love, is laughter. We laugh A LOT! Yesterday was father’s day. I awoke in the morning to an alarming scream, followed by a crash and then my husband yelling out a rather loud expletive (we’re not perfect). I then realized that it was 9am, my husband had beaten me out of bed and was downstairs with our two children. Oops! I ran down to the kitchen to find him cleaning up a broken glass and a mess of milk all over the kitchen floor. Evidently, my usually tough four year old son saw a spider, panicked, through his glass of milk across the room and it smashed on the tile floor. As soon as my sleepy eyes met my husband’s we burst out laughing. My plan (and father’s day expectations) was to get up early with the children and let ‘Daddy’ sleep in while we made him waffles. It didn’t turn out that way and it was no less of a happy and laughter filled day because of it. I might add, he gave me a second heart attack later in the day when he got his hand stuck while trying to move our treadmill and screamed so loud that I thought he must be stuck UNDER it. Once I rescued his nearly crushed hand and I was frantically holding ice on it, he burst out laughing. I proceed to hurl the bag of ice at him before joining in on the laugh. The most wasted of all days truly is one without laughter. So, drop all of those expectations, have gratitude for what you all ready have, and have a good giggle for goodness sakes! “Life is very short. So, break your silly egos, forgive quickly, believe slowly, love truly, laugh loudly, and never avoid anything that makes you smile.” -RP by A.Marie
