Fanboy Arguments That Annoy Me #323: The Im a bigger fan than you argument, where a fanboy insists that his/her opinion is more valid than yours because they have a larger love for a thing, or theyve been reading it for longer, or they take it more seriously than you. Stop. Just stop. I just read a thread on a comics page where one fan was berating another for finding Bat-Mite fun, and he said that fan #2 wasnt a serious Batman fan because of this. Thats stupid, and it reduces fandom to a competition on the level of Mines bigger than yours, nyah nyah NYAH! Its utterly pointless, and it just says to people that you put your personal opinion above anyone elses, no matter what it might be. Theres more than one way to enjoy something. Fandom is supposed to be about sharing your enthusiasms, not proving that you have the biggest stick. Besides, Ive been reading Batman since issue #303, Ive dressed up as both Robin the Boy Wonder and the Riddler for Halloween, I own literally hundreds if not thousands of Batman comics, and an original page of art from BATMAN #355 by Don Newton & Alfredo Alcala. I graduated from the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon & Graphic Art. Ive gotten paid to draw Batman professionally for DC Comics licensing department, and Ive been paid to write articles about Batman for TwoMorrows Publishing. Ive interviewed Denny ONeil, Neal Adams, Mike W. Barr, Alan Davis, Steve Englehart, and Doug Moench about their work on the character, with more to come. So unless your name is Bob Kane, Bill Finger, or Bruce Timm, I WIN. I AM A BIGGER BATFAN THAN YOU. NOW HAVE A CONVERSATION LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN BEING OR STFU. And Bat-Mites cool, dammit.
