Far too many in the American anti-war left went silent as soon as President Obama was elected. They gushed over the Nobel Peace Prize he was given, and cheered the Adminstrations supposed efforts to end the war in Iraq. Nearly 6 years on now, and theres been no end to US sponsored warfare in sight. Anywhere. Not in Iraq. Not in Afghanistan. Not in Pakistan. Yemen. Somalia. Syria. The list goes on and on. The disappearance of the bulk of the anti-war movement following the end of the Bush years demonstrates not only the hypocrisy present amongst many who call themselves peace activists, but also the grandness of the delusion that keeps driving people to the polls seeking saviors, instead of into the streets seeking justice, an end to oppressive systems, and from that the peace we all, in our hearts, long for.
