Farmers of this state / country seemed to have been cursed. Most of the farm production comes from Kharif ( May to July sowings ) crops and is dependent on monsoons. Monsoon patterns have changed due to environmental issues for some years now and nobody is there to guide farmers, who are mostly illeterate. Droughts, excessive untimely rains are the order of the day now causing huge losses to farmers. Farmers must be advised about the vagaries of monsoons and must be asked to sow a combination of 3 to 4 crops instead of only 1 or 2 so that risk is balanced though their incomes get affected if rainfall is normal and timely. To offset losses of Kharif crops govts must increase irrigation facilities so that Rabi ( Oct to Dec sowings ) crops can be grown under comparatively safe weather conditions. All that waters going to the sea during years like this must be saved at every small or big pond / water body, local rivers etc apart from in big dams. Uninterupted power must be supplied to farmers for at least 9 hrs during day time to irrigate crops from their bore wells. In the last 10 years Kharif crops were successful in only 2 to 3 years. Govts must realize this and need to increase Rabi acreage by creating irrigation sources.
