Farrakhan to Appear at Museum During Screening of Documentaries Questioning Nation of Islam’s Role in Assassination of Malcolm X Last February, Louis Farrakhan chose to host his annual “Saviours’ Day” program in Detroit on the anniversary of the Malcolm X assassination. Now he is returning to Detroit on the weekend of May 17 to give a violin recital and a public address at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The museum will be hosting a tribute to Malcolm X that same weekend in honor of the slain leader’s birthday on May 19. As part of its Black Liberation film series, the museum will show both “Brother Minister” by Jack Baxter and the newly released “Black Zapruder Film: They Killed Malcolm X.” Both documentaries are highly critical of Farrakhan’s role in the events leading up to the assassination of Malcolm X on February 21, 1965. Karl Evanzz, the author of a well-regarded book about the assassination of Malcolm X and the director of “Black Zapruder,” said that he was not surprised by Farrakhan’s plans to play his violin while movies about the assassination are playing elsewhere in the museum. “Farrakhan plays the violin but he has never had a good sense of timing,” Evanzz said. “I’m sure that’s why so many people walk out on his speeches and why he never made it as a musician. He doesn’t know when to quit and he doesn’t understand diplomacy. For him to be at the museum playing his fiddle that weekend reminds us of Nero, another leader who was on the wrong side of history.” ~ Karl Evanzz
