#Farwell2K14 By Disha Verma, XII-A Alright soap opera enthusiasts, this drama is too much to swallow even by meerut standards. CLASS XII, DEWAN SCHOOL, LISTEN UP. EVERYBODY. HERE. What does a school farewell mean to you? Ill tell you what it is to most girls like me. It is supposed to be the most awaited day of school life for us. It is the first timmost of us are going to wear a saree, the first time our mothers will be just too melodramatic about us wearing a saree. She is going to be hysterical about how we look, if our shoes match the border, if our bindi is in place, if our hair is perfect, if our make up is spot on. Shell make sure we look no less than the most beautiful girl in the world on this day of farewell. What does farewell mean to that guy who has never worn a suit and tie before? To those who have matched their ties with their girlfriends sarees? It means a day to remember, a day to dance their problems away. Im pretty sure it means little to us, we who have made a show business out of this best day of school life. When did we become this insensitive? Listen up everyone who wants two or more SEPARATE farewells. We have begged you. We have approached you with our self respect in our hands and we have done this over and over again. But if you just cannot bring yourself to a little compromise that can make this day the most memorable day of our lives, Im really sorry for you. I pity you. Youll have to learn to live for people other than yourself, my friend. Your mood swings have stressed us out beyond limits. Weve lost our sleep only hoping you wouldnt call it off in the end. We, despite exams, have toiled endlessly to fix things and make sure all of YOU have a good time. But if you guys continue to change plans like you change clothes, you will be destroying so many dreams. Im not even kidding. This is not a party you go to every other day. Its the farewell. Its the day Ive waited for for five years now. Pls do not play with such an important part of our lives. This can be destructive. And honestly, I dont even know why we have chosen Olivia. Why not Harmony like good olds days? You want to go to Olivia. Like, let me count up the flaws for you: 1. Garden party, right? Good. You want to murder us girls. Well all be wearing SAREES. In mid january. In peak winter. You want to freeze us to death before boards? We could EASILY die of pneumonia. Not even a joke. 2. Garden, again. Of course well all be wearing heels. Girls, you know it. Heels and grass? Heel tutegi ya haddi. 3. Open D.J.? For how long? 4. Khaaney mein insects gir gaye toh? 5. Girls, forget perfume. Wear lots of odomos instead. 6. What if it rains? Hundreds of us cant fit in that tiny excuse for a hotel. 7. Whatever happened to STANDARDS? Harmony is wayyyyyy better than Olivia. Are we compromising on class just to save a few bucks? What. For one last time, pull your shit together. This is not a birthday party. Its the most awaited day of our lives. Wheres all our shame? We can do better than this. Pls shove your prejudices aside and lets make this day worthwhile! Were a family after all :)
