Fascinating Fact #2: While Jimi idolized blues greats like B.B. King and Buddy Guy, he was also enthralled by the sounds coming out of England in the mid 1960’s. He was especially a fan of The Beatles and Eric Clapton. In fact, he agreed to travel to London with Chas Chandler, the former bassist with The Animals and Jimi’s first manager, only if Chandler would introduce him to Clapton. Jimi touched down on British soil on Saturday 24th September, 1966. He arrived at Heathrow at 9am, carrying a small bag with his guitar, a change of clothes, pink plastic hair curlers and a jar of Valderma cream for his acne. Within forty-eight hours, he would take to the stage for an unprecedented onstage jam with Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, aka Cream.
