Fascinating stoff -I wonder if Julian Fellowes has read this book? It turns out that his beloved RP accent is only about two hundred years old! This means that The Bards plays would have been performed by actors who probably sounded more like Ozzie Osborne or Noddy Holder (speaking in an OP accent), than like John Gielgud with his overly polished RP delivery - now theres a thought for you... If only we had the Norwegian approach to respecting dialects. Over in Noway they have two official writing systems for a standardised version of their language.
