FastJet!! This week fastjet will open sales for its first international route, between Tanzania and South Africa, with fares starting at US$100 (R973). Flights to Johannesburg from fastjet’s hub in Dar es Salaam will be available to purchase from July 31 with fastjet’s Facebook friends getting first option to book flights on the day. Seats will go on general release the following day, August 1. Initially, the service will operate three times a week with the first flight scheduled for September 27. The airline said as demand was expected to be high, the company intended to increase the frequency in line with demand. The airline expects to add further international destinations, including Lusaka, in the near future. Richard Bodin, chief commercial officer of fastjet, added: “For some time the Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg route has only been operated by one airline and the lack of competition has created inflated fares. Fastjet will substantially reduce the average fare and, in doing so, will encourage more leisure and business traffic between Tanzania and South Africa.”
