Fasting involves much more than abstaining from eating for a period of time. It also involves spiritual action on our part. God expects us to turn away from all ungodly, self-centered ways. He expects us to have right relationships, right heart attitudes, and right speaking. We cannot fast and pray and continue to tear down others with criticism, backbiting, and gossip! God will not hear us. God is saying to get rid of all harsh, unjust, and wicked speaking!
