Fasting the First 9 Days Of Dhul Hijjah, Especially the Day of Arafah (9th)!! The scholars have concurred that it is recommended to fast during the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah. Note: The tenth day of Dhul Hijjah is the day of Eid ul Adha and is prohibitively disliked and sinful to fast on this day. [Buhuti, Kashshaf al-Qina`; Nawawi,Majmu`; Fatawa Hindiyya; Haskafi, Durr al-Mukhtar; Dardir,al-Sharh al-Saghir] Of all the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah it is particularly recommended to fast on the Day of Arafah (9th of Dhul Hijjah), even for the one on Hajj, if it does not weaken the pilgrim from spending the day busy in worship. [Haskafi, Durr; Kasani, Bada’i`] Forgiveness for 2 years of sins (Minor sins) for fasting on the day of Arafah. Abu Qatada رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰعنه related that the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said, “Fasting the Day of Arafah (9th of Dhul Hijjah) expiates for two years, one prior and one forthcoming. And fasting the Day of Ashura (10th of Muharram) expiates for the past year.” [Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah] So we should try our best to fast all 9 days of Dhul Hijjah particularly the 9th which is the day of Arafah. If we cannot fast all 9 days then we should try and fast as many of the 9 days as possible particularly the 9th which is the day before Eid Ul Adha In sha Allah.
