Father And Son Jailed For Torturing Foxes, Chickens and Pigeons A sickening father and son are in jail for animal cruelty offences that “belongs in the history books” by the RSPCA. Ronald, 63, and Lee Guy, 42, were sentenced to 34 weeks after admitting causing unnecessary suffering to protected animals. In one incident, a fox was torn apart by a pack of dogs and another torture session included a wild rat being attacked by hounds. The Guys, of two separate addresses in Harrowsby Road in Birkenhead, Wirral, also fed wild pigeons to ferrets during a two-year campaign of abuse between 2011 and 2013. In another case the pair sawed at a chicken’s neck with a blunt knife before hurling it onto a concrete patio leaving the animal squawking in agony. The offences took place in two addresses and an allotment in the town on the Wirral peninsula. They included the inhumane slaughter of chickens, causing wild rats to be attacked by dogs and taking feral pigeons to feed ferrets. It is the latest case of extreme animal cruelty after Bristol solicitor Katy Gammon locked her boxer dog in a kitchen and left it to starve to death. And the RSPCA released pictures of emaciated lurcher Fly after an experienced vet described it as the “worst neglect case” they had seen in 30 years. Referring to Lee Guy’s role Chris Murphy, prosecuting at Wirral Magistrates’ Court, said: “The charges involve the slaughter of chickens. “They involve the causing of wild rats to be attacked by dogs. “There are three offences relating to the rats and there’s also an offence relating to the feeding of wild pigeons to ferrets and an offence. “The RSPCA say is perhaps the most serious, of causing the animal fight to take place between a fox and three dogs.” The court heard the fox was in a caged box and the three dogs were set upon the fox, tearing it apart and killing it.” Several of the offences took place in front of gathered crowds and were filmed. John Ballam, defending, said both defendants had pleaded guilty and were “very ashamed” by their actions. He said Ronald Guy had enjoyed success at dog shows in the past and a ban from owning animals would be a “considerable punishment” to him. But District Judge Michael Ableson ignored pleas to give the defendants suspended sentences, giving Ronald 12 weeks and Lee 22 weeks behind bars. He said: “This was shocking behaviour – absolutely inhumane behaviour – to treat animals in this way. “Most people would not be able to comprehend how you could treat animals with such cruelty.” The defendants were also given a lifetime ban from owning animals and ordered to pay £300 each in court costs. Their four dogs, one of which has since given birth to six puppies, have also been seized. Outside the court in Birkenhead, RSPCA officer Anthony Joynes said: “These sort of offences are just barbaric. “It is abhorrent cruelty that belongs in the history books. “There has been a rise in this sort of behaviour in Wirral and the North West. “If people are going to take that decision to get involved in that sort of cruelty then they can expect to spend time in prison.”
