Father Kolbe the martyr During the second world war, Father Kolbe was sent to a concentration camp by the Nazis :Auschwitz in Poland. A large number of people-Jews and Polish people-were sent to the camp ,and they were separated in groups. If one of the group runs away, the group has to take a responsibility for that : that means death. They must be sent to an underground prison with no food and drink. One day one of the POWs ran away out of the camp, and the head of the camp pointed out one man for death, which meant death. He and some POWs had to go to the undergrond starvation room. They had to stay in there until they died. One of the POWs broke down crying,I have a wife and daughter. JUST THEN Father Kolbe stepped forward to the head of the camp and said. Please take me to the underground prison instead of this man because I dont have a wife and daughter . The head of the camp said OK and called Father Kolbe a pig. POWs died mad once they were sent there. Father Kolbe and some POWs were sent underground ,however, hymns and prayers were heard out of the underground prison all the time until they passed away. PS When a prisoner escaped from the camp , the Nazis selected 10 others to be killed by starvation in reprisal for the escape.
