Fats are okay to eat! Period. Lets stop believing all the old hype and get back to eating real food. Processed foods are whats killing people, not real food (minus sensitivities and allergies of course). This has been coming to the forefront of nutrition more and more these days (see article). I am truly not a believer of any fad diets. Just look at the word diet... it has the word die in it and thats totally not cool in my books. Im a true believer that eating healthy whole foods (organic if possible) is where its at. Theres even room for treats if your overall eating lifestyle is healthy. No matter what your eating style, always include at least half of your plate with veggies/greens/and fruit and make sure your meal includes a form or protein and some fat. This ratio helps keep hunger at bay and keeps your blood sugar levels in tact. Heres an example. Every weekend (or every other), I have bacon with my breakfast, which also consists of eggs, and a slice of whole grain bread, and lots of fruit. I dont eat 10 pieces of bacon; Ill have 2-3. I dont eat 4 slices of toast, I have one. I always eat 2 eggs and eat them several times a week. Of course, every person is unique and reacts to different foods much differently than the next guy/girl. Its called bio-individuality. In addition, other folks will not eat certain foods due to their beliefs (ie. vegans/vegetarians) and thats also totally cool. The point is, no matter who we are we can choose to have a healthy whole foods eating routine. We just have to learn to listen to our bodies and figure out what works for us.
