Favourite songs of Melody Queen Noor Jehan~~ Noor Jehan, the melody queen who enchanted millions of music lovers in the subcontinent for more than half a century. Her meteoric rise from a child artist, Baby Noor Jehan, to Malika-e-Tarannum made her the phenomenal musical genius. No other singing star of the sub-continent in the 20th century ever reached the commanding heights of name and fame achieved by Noor Jehan, the nightingale of Punjab. She brought a revolution in the world of popular music and even gave form and content to Punjabi folk songs. Noor Jehan was the adopted stage name for Allah Wasai. She was born on September 21, 1926 in Kasur, British India (now Pakistan). She is renowned as one of the most melodious singers of her time in the Indian subcontinent and was honoured as Mallika-e-Tarranum, which in English means Queen of Melody. Urdu-speaking Pakistanis respectfully refer to her ‘Madam Noor Jehan,’ According to an estimate madam sang atleast 10000 songs. There was a time when She is supposed to have done recordings for as many as five songs also in one day. Sadly, not all are documented. Some of these are probably lost forever. However some songs have lasted in the minds of generations of the 21st century also which we showcase here for all to enjoy. Sharing few of my personal favourites for the music lovers.
