Favouritism In Hell The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever is put in charge of any affair of the Muslims and he appoints in command over them anyone out of favouritism, then there is the curse of Allah upon him, and Allah will not accept from him either repentance nor a ransom until He enters him into Jahannum.” [Ahmad] A position of authority is a trust (Amanah). Don’t misuse it because you will be accountable before Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) for it. A common manifestation of corruption is the appointment of relatives or supporters to positions (usually from which money is to be made), while they are not the most qualified to hold those offices. It is a cause of the downfall of nations. When you appoint anyone make sure it is on merit, to avoid Allah’s curse from engulfing you. Likewise, when you accept a position, it better be one whose obligations you can fulfill.
