Fay L. (Schroeder) Schmidt age 63, of Wausaukee, passed away surrounded by her family at Froedtert Hospital from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. She was born in Marinette on August 29, 1951; daughter of the late Vernon and Martha (Frabel) Schroeder. Fay was united in marriage to Darryll Schmidt on November 12, 1981, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Wausaukee. She was employed at McVane Nursing Home in Crivitz in the 1970’s and also for 37 years at Bank North reached the title of Executive Vice President and was on the board of directors for three years. Fay was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #150. Fay was an avid gardener with her own greenhouse. On summer afternoons she found sanctuary in her garden working the soil before taking a swim in her little pool with the big deck. Her vegetable garden was known to be exceptionally large to account for raids by her sisters. She also so enjoyed growing flowers and making arrangements, which could often be found throughout Bank North. She was the family cook, always hosting the holiday meals. She loved to travel, as every trip itinerary included at least a few winery tours. Fay’s travel destinations centered around family from her annual flight to California to visit her Sister Arlene, road trips with one of her siblings to see the country, or trips to connect with a distant relative she tracked down during her family genealogy work. Fay was an avid reader and news junkie. During the winter she enjoyed crocheting blankets for friends and family. And she loved her Green Bay Packers. Most importantly, her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren. Fay was known as the Schroeder family genealogist. She spent countless hours researching, contacting and getting to know relatives from all over the world, gathering and cataloging photos, and documenting the Schroeder family history. She took great pride in knowing everyone’s birthday, anniversary, and their story. Fay was diagnosed with AML in June 2014. She fought the leukemia and went into remission. In early November Fay received a stem cell transplant from her brother Michael at Froedtert Hospital. She was discharged on November 25 and stayed at Kathy’s House for rehab. Her sister Verna and husband were her caregivers. Fay is survived by her husband of 33 years, Darryll; four children: Roxanne (Doug) Chronert, Cory (special friend, Cara) Nelezen, Matthew (special friend, Jesse Brauer) Schmidt, and Steven (Brigitte) Schmidt; five grandchildren; six siblings: Vernon (Patricia) Schroeder, Arlene Coughlin, Verna (Roger) Verdegan, David (Jill) Schroeder, Sandra (Tom) VanCaster, and Michael (special friend, Kristy) Schroeder; and numerous extended family and many friends. Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Monday December 15, 2014, at the Roubal Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at messarfuneralhome In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial scholarship fund will be set up in Fay’s name.
