Faysel Setif Faysel: With your excellent eye Im wondering if youve seen any evidence of dog houses. This can of course be very subtle in archeological sites. The picture Im putting in here is from Woolley and Mallowan, Ur Excavations VII. The Old Babylonian Period (1976). This is a courtyard in the excavations at Ur. If you look on the wall at the right, you can see an inverted V-shaped outline. The excavators speculated it was created by a dog house being pushed against the wall for a dog to have shelter in the courtyard, presumably a guard dog that could inspect anyone entering the house. Ive been gathering materials on dog houses for years and would appreciate anything youve seen that might mean dogs were sheltered in the ruins youre photographing. J
