~Fear & Bravery~ “Of course I’m afraid. That’s how come I can be so brave! ..And I know I’m being brave.” There is an inherent potion of bravery in human existence. There exists bravery in anything done by a human being. For one who holds absolute zero bravery would not be able to do anything at all. They would simply cower in the corner. They would be petrified of the thought of it. When we choose to do anything at all, we are then brave for it. So, being alive and living as we do is very brave. Not only settling for breathing and just being, we as humans brave forward to move, to go places, drive things, meet people, do things, eat, drink and a million other things everyday of our lives. We are a bloody brave bunch of people, us humans. When you tell a child “you’re being brave” you do so to help her or him conquer the related fear attached. Every brave action can only occur due to the prior existing related fear to warrant it. Our society has decreed that highest degree of bravery is to risk one’s life, to which we decorate the hero with a bravery medal. This however also shows us that our greatest fear is death. In accepting this though we should not forget all the bravery forgotten by this ranking. We soon forget that the construct of society: family units, friends, social and other networks, governing bodies and at most parts the constructed peace that has given us the privilege to not consider the many fears that we take for granted that we brave every day. Whether we are at war or in the most peaceful of lands we continue to brave our every action in living so. We are bloody brave bunch of people, us humans. So next time you’re afraid & feel fear has you beat. You feel ashamed for you think you are cowering, remember you are one of the bloody brave bunch of people! You have been brave all your life. This is simply another opportunity to train it once more. Be brave as the child in you once did to achieve so much since… “Of course I’m afraid.
