Fear that leads to evil and death Acts 28:11 - And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux. Before I start I like to quote a part of the commentary from John Gills on this sign that was put at the head of this ship: whose sign was Castor and Pollux; or Dioscuri, that is, the sons of Jupiter; for Castor and Pollux were his sons, by Leda: these are placed among the constellations in the Zodiac, and go by the name of Gemini, or the twins; and these were supposed to have a power of saving men in danger at sea: wherefore such as were about to go to sea, first paid their devoirs, and made vows to them; which they performed when they returned, and were delivered from shipwreck; and when they were in danger at sea, they used to pray unto them: the fiery exhalations that sometimes appear at sea, they took for them; and when only one appeared, it was looked on as a bad omen; but when both, it was reckoned to portend a prosperous voyage; hence they were considered as sea deities; In India the Hindus believe the Elephant headed god Ganesha to be a great protector, therefore they would not do anything to offend him and they mostly start everything with paying homage to it. The Catholics believe in this deity called Mother Mary as being their protector therefore those who travel especially by sea make sure to pay homage to her idol. We see all pagan or corrupt beliefs make their people to fear and then harvest this fear and lead them to destruction by setting them against God whom they never fear. We read throughout the Bible God telling His people fear not. He tells them to overcome the fear of any and every thing in this world that is visible or invisible, the only thing they are called to fear is fear the wrath of God thus be far from sin since on judgment day His wrath will fall on all sin. Man is filled with fear because he does have knowledge or understanding what he sees or senses, thus his mind plays games on him and causes him to fear. Ironically since he does not see or know God this same man tends to not fear God and thus dares to go against God. So we see knowledge, wisdom and understanding can set people free from fear and at the same time make the person aware of whom they should truly fear, for the Truth is known to them. They are not like men walking with blindfolds imagining things in their path but walk like people with sight, eye wide open, who can see what is in their path. In today message God is telling us to open our eyes to His Truth so that we may overcome fear of things of this world and fear only His wrath. [Prayer Starter] Lord, You alone are God and there is none other than You. Lord, we prayer people read your Word and their eyes open to the Truth, that they overcome fears of things of this world and below this world, but fear You alone. That they set themselves far from sin, for You hate sin and they would not want to face your wrath when it falls on sin... This prayer we make in Jesus Name, Amen.
