Fearfuldogs 7 hours ago Well said. Unfortunately the state of the dog training industry is like eating tomatoes. If all youve ever eaten is one from the grocery store you think thats what theyre suppose to taste like. But once you have one ripe off the vine you can never go back to the others. Many people (including the ones selling the tomatoes) are unaware of the richness, beauty, efficiency and morality to be found in modern animal training. Until we get the taste of those store-bought tomatoes out of our mouths we may find it difficult to embrace ethical and effective dog training. Change your brain. Dogs behave. They do what works for them. If we dont like it set them up so the inappropriate behavior is either unlikely or challenging to perform while making the appropriate behavior the best and easiest choice in the mix. As varied and sophisticated as dogs are, theyre still dogs. They dont want the keys to the car to be happy. They dont need new trendy sneakers to be happy. They dont need gap years to find themselves. We learned how to send people to the moon. We know how to modify behavior in dogs without resorting to force, fear, coercion, pain, threats or intimidation.
